How Would You Wear It?

It's Wednesday, so it's time for another round of "How Would Your Wear It?"  Animal print is everywhere I turn right now.  How would you wear these leopard peeptoe heels?  What dress would you pair them with?  Would you wear them to work?

Fashion Inspiration - Raven-Symoné

Half of the fun of watching TV comes from admiring the stylists' skills at making the actors look fabulous.  Case in point: I've been watching "State of Georgia," the new Raven-Symoné sitcom on ABC Family, and I'm really impressed by Raven's/Georgia's outfits.  I love the amount of color she wears, and it's great that the stylists keep her looking young and fresh, but not like an overgrown teenager.  I've liked almost everything, sans that white pirate shirt from the first episode, which gave me a wicked "Seinfeld" flashback.

Fashion Crush Friday

Like most clothes horses and fashion nuts, I spend oodles of time combing through my favorite clothing sites for that new item or outfit I can dream about.  It’s called a clothes crush, and right now, I’m crushing on a banging Helmut Lang denim dress (www.shopbop.com, $290).  I dream of pairing it with these Zara sandals (Zara stores, $29.99) and red leather Miu Miu tote (www.mytheresa.com, $989).

Question: What to Wear to Brunch with Future In-Laws?

Hi Sophia – I’m going to brunch with my fiance’s sister and mother on Saturday.   They’re very sweet (no in-law troubles there), but this is our first time spending a day together without the guys.  They tend to be more conservative dressers than me.  I’m worried that too much cleavage will derail the potentially pleasant morning.  We’re either going to Murphy’s or South City Kitchen, if that helps.  --- Décolletage in Decatur a.k.a. DD

Hi DD (love it!) – Thanks for the e-mail.  As a fellow “bosom buddy,” I understand your concern.  Goodness knows that you don’t want the girls to spill over onto your future mother-in-law’s omelette au fromage.

First, I don’t think you can go wrong with a sleeveless satin top like the one pictured below.  We paired it with pants and jeweled heels here, but you can substitute a cute pencil skirt.

Second, if you want to wear a dress, I suggest a jersey dress like the adorable burnt orange one.  As you probably know, I love the peeptoes, so we’ve included them here.  The Coach clutch is a sleek accessory.

Here are a few more options.

Anthropologie Tops

H&M Dresses
Banana Republic Options

Let us know how it goes!

Deal of the Day Wednesday

I love life's good things: good food, loyal friends, family, toy dogs, wine, and stilettos.  I'm going to have to add another category to that list - beautiful jewelry.  To be honest, I've never been a big jewelry person.  I didn't get my ears pierced until March 2010 (an event to which I refer as "The Great Piercing" or "How I Learned To Stop Complaining and Just Love the Gun").  Prior to "The Great Piercing," I really only wore my Movado watch and a sterling silver thumb ring.  I barely wore bracelets or necklaces and, of course, no earrings.  Now, I have a whole new obsession, and I love to feed it with jewelry from Bijoux by Desi F.  This designer out of Houston, TX creates the most delicate, organic pieces.  I mentioned her designs in the "My Cougar Town Obsession" post on May 15th (http://bit.ly/sophialuvsCT).  She's very talented and does a superb job recreating pieces seen in our favorite TV shows and movies.

Anyhoo, Bijoux by Desi F. is offering 10% off of some of her beautiful designs through her Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijouxbydesif?ref=pr_shop).  Use coupon code END2010BDF at checkout.

A Luminous Summer - Playdate

SETTING:  Friend’s backyard
DRINK:  Arnold Palmer
SCENT:  Kenzo Summer

Your dog runs to you with a ball in her mouth while you’re engrossed in a conversation about the best brow aestheticians in Decatur.  You absentmindedly toss the toy to the far end of the yard.  Standing on your friend’s deck overlooking the grass where the neighbors’ dogs are frolicking, you admire the gorgeous landscaping around the perimeter.  When asked to prepare a fresh batch of AP’s (it’s common knowledge that yours are the perfect mixture), you head up the wooden deck steps into the kitchen.  The smell of chicken grilling over coals wafts follows you through the door.

Have a playdate coming up?  See below for outfit options.

Downtown Triple Date

SETTING:  Hip downtown restaurant (two $ on Yelp.com)
DRINK:  French Kiss Cocktail
SCENT:  No. 6 Mandarin & Ginger Lily by Trish McEvoy

Last-minute plans with friends leads to dinner at a trendy downtown restaurant.  Since you’re the first to arrive, you sit with your boyfriend at the bar and talk heatedly about the NFL’s hopes for a resolution to the lockout.  When the remainder of your party arrives, you hop down from the barstool and teeter on your 5-inch platform cork stilettos.   Inspired by the Asian fusion food served at the restaurant, you strut in a flowy kimono top cinched at the waist with a black leather belt.  The dark blue skinny jeans play well against the tan silk of your stilettos.  As you settle into your seat for dinner, you notice the other patrons admiring your shoes.  Don’t you love it when an evening turns out so well?

Deal of the Day Tuesday

Your e-mails say it all: the Wear It Out galère loves a good deal.  Well, I've got a couple good ones for you from two of the usual suspects.  Ann Taylor and The Loft are both offering 40% off of everything.  For Ann Taylor, the discount will be applied automatically to the entire purchase price, so no code is needed.  You will need a code for The Loft (Shop40).   To complement this offer, both stores are offering free shipping on orders over $150 or $125, respectively.  Extraordinarily good deals for two stores that will fill your closet with flirty office-friendly fare and sexy party dresses.
